Karnataka announces cess on transactions conducted through aggregator platforms to support gig workers
The Karnataka government will impose a new cess on transactions via platforms like Zomato, Swiggy, and Uber to fund social security for gig workers. Labour Minister Santosh Lad confirmed the cess, aimed at transportation services, will support a welfare fund. The state is drafting a bill to ensure social security and rights for gig workers.
