ChatGPT can now set reminders and automate tasks for you:OpenAI introduces ‘Scheduled Tasks’ feature to monitor things; learn how you can use it
OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has introduced a new ‘Scheduled Tasks’ feature that allows ChatGPT to handle recurring tasks, send reminders, and even monitor information in the background. The update is rolling out to paid users and is designed to help people automate routine tasks without constantly interacting with the chatbot. What Is the new Scheduled Tasks feature?
Scheduled Tasks is a new system that lets users tell ChatGPT to perform tasks at specific times or on a recurring schedule. For example, users can ask ChatGPT to remind them about an upcoming meeting, send a daily summary, track a topic they care about, or perform regular tasks automatically.
Instead of waiting for users to return and ask again, ChatGPT can now complete these actions on its own and send notifications when needed. According to OpenAI: “With scheduled tasks, users can ask ChatGPT to send reminders, handle recurring work, or monitor things for them.” The feature is currently rolling out to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscribers. A dedicated hub for managing tasks To make task management easier, OpenAI has added a new Scheduled page in ChatGPT’s sidebar. This section acts as a central dashboard where users can view all their active tasks in one place. It shows when tasks are scheduled to run and allows users to make changes whenever needed. Users can: More flexible scheduling options OpenAI has also made scheduling more flexible. Instead of choosing a specific time, users can ask ChatGPT to perform tasks during broader time periods, such as the morning, afternoon, or evening. This makes it easier to create reminders and recurring actions without worrying about precise timings. The company says the new system is faster, more reliable, and better at handling scheduled actions than previous versions. ChatGPT can now monitor the web for updates One of the biggest additions is support for monitoring tasks. With this feature, ChatGPT can proactively check the web and connected applications for changes or updates. If something important happens, the chatbot can notify the user automatically. For instance, users could ask ChatGPT to watch for updates on a specific topic, track announcements, or monitor changes on websites and connected services. Rather than sending constant alerts, ChatGPT will only notify users when it finds something relevant to report.
There are some limits While the feature adds powerful automation capabilities, there are a few restrictions. OpenAI says scheduled tasks can run at a maximum frequency of once every hour. In addition, tasks that remain unused for a long period may automatically pause themselves. These limits are designed to keep the system efficient and prevent unnecessary background activity.
