As the Wimbledon 2026 began yesterday, the iconic stars have geared up to clash against each other for the title.
Speaking about the tennis players, Indian cricket team’s wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson said that the sport looks tough. The cricketer also said that the kind of effort tennis players put in for five to six hours is incredible.
“It looks very tough. I honestly don’t follow a lot of tennis, but whenever I see a game on television, my respect for the players goes up another level. They continuously play for 5-6 hours individually. The amount of effort that is put in physically, along with the mental aspect of the game, is incredible,” he said on JioStar.
“That’s something I’m a very big fan of, and I’d like to learn a lot from Rohan about the mental aspect,” added Samson.
Wimbledon 2026, Jannik Sinner vs Miomir Kecmanovic: Match summary
Recently, men’s defending champion Jannik Sinner secured a crucial victory and avoided a surprise shock in the first round of the prestigious tennis tournament.
However, he defeated Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic by 4-6, 6-3, 6-7 (6/8), 6-2, 6-3 on the Centre Court. The Italian was in danger of suffering a second successive early Grand Slam exit, after his second-round loss at the French Open last month.
It is the Italian’s first tournament since collapsing from two sets and 5-1 up to lose to Juan Manuel Cerundolo at the Roland Garros.
He would have also been the first defending champion to suffer a loss in the first round of the Wimbledon since Lleyton Hewitt in 2003. The 24-year-old tennis star will now lock horns with Portugal’s Nuno Borges in the second round of the marquee event on July 1.
On the other hand, Serbia’s tennis legend Novak Djokovic registered a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 win against China’s Wu Yibing. The 39-year-old veteran tennis star will take on Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round on July 1.
Norway’s World No. 11 Casper Ruud suffered a shock defeat to Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz by a 4-6, 2-6, 6-7 (9) margin.
