From welding on towering steel walls to removing rust high above the ground, China’s latest AI robot is built to go where humans face the greatest risks. Designed for hazardous industrial environments, the wall-climbing machine can perform complex tasks while being remotely operated by a worker using a VR headset. Shared by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, the video shows the robot moving smoothly along a vertical metal wall at a construction site while carrying out high-risk work. Instead of sending workers to hazardous heights, the robot is designed to take on these risky jobs, reducing the chances of workplace accidents.
Built for dangerous environments Unlike conventional humanoid robots, this machine replaces legs with magnetic wheels that firmly attach to steel surfaces. This allows it to move both horizontally and vertically on large metal structures such as storage tanks, ships, and industrial facilities. Its upper body is equipped with two robotic arms that can perform complex, precision-intensive tasks, making it suitable for welding, grinding, polishing, and rust removal. The robot can also be controlled remotely by a human operator wearing a VR headset and motion controllers, allowing workers to stay safely on the ground. At the same time, the machine handles hazardous work at height. Powered by AI The robot uses advanced AI models trained on more than 100,000 hours of operational data, helping it carry out industrial tasks more efficiently. However, human operators remain in control when needed through the VR system, combining artificial intelligence with human supervision. Another notable feature is its continuous power supply. Instead of relying on batteries, the robot stays connected through a cable, allowing it to operate for long hours without stopping to recharge.
