Indian boxer Jadumani Singh Mandengbam dedicated his win against Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman to the country’s Kargil heroes after securing a berth in the men’s 55kg quarterfinals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Sunday.

The 22-year-old put on a clinical performance to sweep past Rehman 5-0 via a unanimous decision in their Round of 16 clash, ensuring India remains in contention for a medal in the division.

Following the bout, the Manipuri boxer honoured the nation’s military personnel and declared his ambition to bring home the top prize. Coincidentally, his victory occurred on July 26, a date commemorated nationwide as Kargil Vijay Diwas.

“I dedicate my win to the Kargil heroes. I felt great winning against Pakistan. I will perform even better in the quarterfinals and secure a Gold for India,” he told ANI after the bout.

Across the nation earlier that day, citizens and leaders marked the 27th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, honouring the courage of servicemen who gave their lives during the 1999 conflict.

While the high-stakes showdown drew attention, Jadumani dictated the pace from start to finish, sweeping all five judges’ scorecards.

Rehman had advanced to the round of 16 via a first-round bye, whereas Jadumani entered the ring sharp following an impressive 5-0 unanimous decision against local favourite Aaron Cullen of Scotland in the round of 32.

The victory moves the Indian fighter into Tuesday’s quarterfinal bout, where a win would assure him of at least a bronze medal, given that both defeated semifinalists in Commonwealth Games boxing earn podium finishes.

Jadumani, a silver medallist in the 50kg class at last year’s World Boxing Cup Finals in Noida, has adapted seamlessly since stepping up to the 55kg division this season, securing back-to-back unanimous wins in Glasgow.

His win added to a stellar Sunday for the Indian contingent across multiple arenas. Star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu claimed her third straight Commonwealth Games gold in the women’s 48kg category, while Chanambam Rishikanta Singh earned silver in the men’s 60kg event and Raja Muthupandi captured silver in the men’s 65kg division.
