Team India secured a 35-run victory in the third T20I match against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club. With this, the “Men in Blue” registered a 3-0 series win.

This was also Team India’s first series win in the shortest format since Shreyas Iyer’s appointment. Speaking about the series win, Team India’s stand-in head coach VVS Laxman congratulated the skipper and hailed him by saying the Mumbai-born cricketer was very optimistic from day one.

“A big round of applause to the entire team. We set out to win the series. I would like to specially congratulate Shreyas because he had a rough start to his captaincy career, but the way he came back, right from the first day when he joined us one day before the first game, he was very optimistic and looking forward to playing with all of you,” he said in a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

“It’s a new group of players. We know that only four or five of those who were there in England joined us on this tour. But he was so confident and a lot of credit for this victory should be given to the captain, the way he encouraged each one of you,” added the former cricketer.

He then hailed Team India’s winners’ mindset throughout the series.

“We wanted to exhibit a winners’ mindset. In our first meeting, we asked ourselves if we could do that. And all of you, throughout all these three matches, you all have done that,” said Laxman.

IND vs ZIM 3rd T20I: Match summary

Batting first, the visitors posted a target of 192 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Team India’s Vaibhav Sooryavanshi played a knock of 81 runs off just 49 deliveries, laced with eight boundaries and four maximums. Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan smashed 29 runs in 26 balls, including four boundaries. Skipper Iyer also garnered 27 runs off 18 deliveries, with the help of two boundaries. Facing 14 balls, Rinku Singh gave the finishing touches and accumulated 25 runs, including two boundaries and a maximum.

Zimbabwe’s Brad Evans managed to pick up two wickets. Captain Sikandar Raza, Blessing Muzarabani, and Wesley Madhevere also bagged one wicket each.

Later in the second innings of the match, Zimbabwe managed to reach 157 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.

Ryan Burl was the hosts’ top-scorer. Facing 43 balls, he registered 54 runs, including five boundaries. Madhevere also scored 28 runs, whereas Ben Curran departed after scoring 20 runs.

Team India’s Mayank Yadav claimed three wickets. Yash Thakur also bagged two wickets. Ashok Sharma and Ravi Bishnoi chipped in with one wicket each.
