Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated weightlifter Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam on Tuesday after she clinched the bronze medal in the women’s 58kg division at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Praising her consistency, PM Modi took to X to share his best wishes for her upcoming endeavours.

“Yet another medal for India in Weightlifting! Proud of Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam for winning a Bronze in the Women’s 58kg event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Her success is due to her hard work and determination. Wishing her the very best for the endeavours ahead,” PM Modi wrote.

President Droupadi Murmu and Rajnath Singh celebrate India’s Commonwealth medals

President Droupadi Murmu extended her congratulations to para-athletes Sharmila Dhankar and Shilpa K Shyla, weightlifter Valluri Ajaya Babu, and high jumper Sarvesh Kushare following their successful performances.

Highlighting Sharmila Dhankar’s gold in the women’s shot put F57, President Murmu described it as a landmark victory for Indian para-athletics.

“Heartiest congratulations to Sharmila Dhankar on winning the Gold Medal in the Women’s Shot Put F57 event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. By becoming India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games Gold medallist in Para Athletics, you have achieved a landmark feat. Your achievement will inspire young athletes to excel in their chosen fields. I wish you many more laurels in the years to come,” the post read.

Extending her praise to fellow shot putter Shilpa K Shyla for her bronze medal, the President noted:

“Congratulations to Shilpa K Shyla for winning the Bronze Medal in the Women’s Shot Put F57 event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. Your resolve and perseverance are an inspiration to all. My best wishes for your future endeavours,” she posted on X.

Additionally, she congratulated high jumper Sarvesh Anil Kushare on his historic silver-medal clearance:

“Hearty congratulations to Sarvesh Anil Kushare for clinching the Silver Medal in the Men’s High Jump event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. With your excellent performance, you have made India proud. My best wishes to you for many more inspiring feats,” the post read.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also joined in congratulating Ajaya Babu and Sarvesh Kushare for their second-place finishes.

Praising Ajaya Babu’s weightlifting performance on X, Rajnath wrote:

“Congratulations to Valluri Ajaya Babu on securing the Silver Medal in the Men’s 79kg Weightlifting event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. He displayed exceptional grit, composure and competitive spirit. His podium finish is a reflection of India’s growing strength in weightlifting and the rewards of unwavering dedication to excellence. Wishing you many more achievements and continued success in the years ahead,” Rajnath Singh wrote.
