John Stones completes move to Inter Milan on contract through 2028

England international and former Manchester City defender John Stones has finalised a transfer to Italian club Inter Milan, putting pen to paper on a contract valid until the summer of 2028.

Following ten years at the Etihad Stadium spanning from 2016 to 2026, Stones steps into a new chapter with the 21-time Serie A champions and three-time European Cup winners.

Stones enjoyed incredible success during his decade with Manchester City, winning Premier League trophies, three FA Cups, five League Cups, three Community Shields, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. Over his tenure with the English side, he made 295 appearances and scored 19 goals.

His defensive composure, tactical flexibility, and reliability made him an indispensable element for England as well, earning 94 caps while helping lead the national side to consecutive UEFA Euro finals in 2021 and 2024, alongside two FIFA World Cup semifinal appearances, most recently falling to Argentina earlier this year.

Stones aims for more silverware at Inter Milan

Speaking following his arrival at the San Siro, Stones shared his thoughts via the club’s official website:

“I have so many emotions. I am really happy and proud, excited to start this new chapter and this new journey. I could not imagine a better place to do it.”

Acknowledging that relocating from England to Serie A marks a major career change, he said:

“Yes, absolutely. It was something I had always wanted to do and, when this opportunity came up, I spoke about it with my family, and we were certain: we wanted to come here.”

Stones acknowledged that the Inter Milan “set the bar very high” over the previous campaign after capturing both Serie A and the Coppa Italia, reaffirming his desire to maintain that standard.

“Here to win and fight for every trophy,” he emphasised. “That has always been my mentality wherever I have played, and I am convinced we can achieve it. We have to keep aiming for the very top,” he added.
