‘Cognizant alerts customers about cyber attack’:AI company offers $1 million insurance policy to customers whose personal information may be leaked
IT services giant Cognizant has alerted affected customers about a security data breach, reported business portal, MoneyControl. To help protect those whose personal data was exposed, the company is providing free protection services, including a $1 million or ₹9.50 crore identity theft insurance cover. Cognizant disclosed that unauthorized people breached its systems, that may have exposed sensitive personal details of customers. A hacker group named CoinbaseCartel claimed responsibility for accessing the company’s internal data. Cognizant officially reported the cyber incident to consumer regulatory authorities and began sending notification letters directly to affected individuals. What Is Cognizant offering to affected customers? To lower the risk of financial loss or identity theft, Cognizant is offering a relief package for affected users: 24 Months of Free Protection: Impacted individuals will receive two years of free identity monitoring services managed through cybersecurity firm IDX. $1 Million Insurance Cover: The package includes an insurance policy of up to $1 million to reimburse costs if identity theft occurs. Credit Monitoring: Users get dark web scanning, identity recovery support, and continuous credit monitoring. Security Guidance: Cognizant has advised impacted people to place security freezes and fraud alerts on their accounts with major credit reporting bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion).
