Dhruv Jurel inches towards century as Team India reach 475 at tea on Day 2

In the second Test match against Sri Lanka, Team India has reached the score of 475 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 131.2 overs at tea on Day 2 at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo.

Dhruv Jurel and Mohammed Siraj are unbeaten at the crease. Facing 155 balls, Jurel has reached 95 runs, with the help of nine boundaries, whereas Siraj is yet to open his account and has faced 17 balls.

Sri Lanka’s Asitha Fernando has bagged four wickets. Keshara Nuwantha also claimed two wickets. Lahiru Kumara and Prabath Jayasuriya have chipped in with one wicket each. Sonal Dinusha, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Kamil Mishara are yet to claim any wickets.

Earlier, opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 45 runs in 53 balls, including nine boundaries. Fellow opening batsman KL Rahul also scored 18 runs in 33 balls, with the help of two boundaries and a maximum.

Devdutt Padikkal delivered a stunning knock of 117 runs off 193 deliveries, which was laced with 12 boundaries. Skipper Shubman Gill registered 50 runs in 108 balls, which included six boundaries. Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant played an impressive knock of 63 runs in 89 balls, including six boundaries and two maximums.

With this, he scripted history by becoming Team India’s highest run-scorer as a designated wicketkeeper in away or neutral Tests. Pant has amassed 2,501 runs at an impressive average of 41.68 (at the time of reporting), just surpassing Dhoni’s 2,496 runs. Farokh Engineer (1,209), Syed Kirmani (1,109) and Kiran More (901) round out the top five.

Facing 83 balls, Ravindra Jadeja scored 43 runs, including four boundaries. Saransh Jain was dismissed on six runs in eight balls, including a boundary. Manav Suthar also accumulated 18 runs after facing 51 balls, which included two boundaries.

The ongoing Test series is one of the important series for Team India in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. The win in the second Test match against Sri Lanka will be crucial for Team India to keep hopes alive for the WTC final.
