Sonal Dinusha's gritty knock takes Sri Lanka to 383 runs at tea on Day 5

In the second Test match against Team India, Sri Lanka has reached the score of 383 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 133 overs at tea on Day 5 at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo.

The hosts have taken a lead of 170 runs.

Sonal Dinusha has been exceptionally well out there in the middle. Shouldering him is Lahiru Kumara.

Earlier, Prabath Jayasuriya’s knock lasted for 28 balls, in which he scored just two runs. Keshara Nuwantha played a fighting knock of 46 runs, which came in 150 balls, including four boundaries.

Fellow opening batsman Kamil Mishara accumulated 32 runs in 39 balls, with the help of three boundaries and a maximum. Pasindu Sooriyabandara delivered a stunning knock of 92 runs in 173 balls, including 10 boundaries and a maximum. Kamindu Mendis returned to the pavilion after delivering a glorious knock of 55 runs. Facing 92 balls, he smashed two boundaries and three maximums.

Captain Dhananjaya de Silva managed to score 23 runs in 44 balls, including a boundary and a maximum. Wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella scored just six runs in 12 balls, which included a boundary.

Team India’s Manav Suthar has claimed three wickets, whereas Ravindra Jadeja has managed to register two wickets. Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, and Saransh Jain have picked up one wicket each.

The ongoing Test series is one of the important series for Team India in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. The win in the second Test match against Sri Lanka will be crucial for Team India to keep hopes alive for the WTC final.

Here’s how Sri Lanka can prevent Team India’s second innings:

1) If Sri Lanka’s lower-order batsmen continue to protect their wickets and consume the remaining time in the Test, they could prevent the visitors from coming out to bat.

2) Rain interruptions or other weather conditions could reduce the number of crucial overs in the series-deciding fixture between Team India and Sri Lanka. If that happens, the Shubman Gill-led side could be left with little or no time to chase a target.

3) If the hosts continue to bat until the match ends, the visitors will not get a chance to bat in their second innings, which in turn will result in a draw.
