Dinusha completes half-century, takes Sri Lanka to 329 runs at lunch on Day 5

Sri Lanka has reached the score of 329 runs for the loss of six wickets in 104 overs at the stroke of lunch on Day 5 at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo in the second Test match against Team India.

The hosts are now leading by 116 runs. Sonal Dinusha and Keshara Nuwantha are unbeaten at the crease. Dinusha has completed his half-century and has been showcasing stunning strokes against the Indian bowling attack. Nuwantha has reached 46 runs. 

Team India’s Manav Suthar has claimed two wickets. Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Saransh Jain, and Ravindra Jadeja have bagged one wicket each.

Earlier, opening batsman Lahiru Udara was dismissed on three runs in 15 balls in second innings. Fellow opening batsman Kamil Mishara accumulated 32 runs in 39 balls, with the help of three boundaries and a maximum. Pasindu Sooriyabandara delivered a stunning knock of 92 runs in 173 balls, including 10 boundaries and a maximum. Kamindu Mendis returned to the pavilion after delivering a glorious knock of 55 runs. Facing 92 balls, he smashed two boundaries and three maximums.

Captain Dhananjaya de Silva managed to score 23 runs in 44 balls, including a boundary and a maximum. Wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella scored just six runs in 12 balls, which included a boundary.

Earlier, Sri Lanka‘s opening batsman Lahiru Udara was dismissed on one run in six balls. Fellow opening batsman Kamil Mishara departed after scoring 19 runs in 25 balls, including three boundaries. Prabath Jayasuriya registered two runs in seven balls.

Pasindu Sooriyabandara garnered 80 runs off 133 deliveries. His knock was laced with nine boundaries. Kamindu Mendis returned to the pavilion after accumulating 32 runs in 58 balls, with the help of three boundaries and a maximum. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva scored eight runs in 14 balls, including two boundaries. Wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella was dismissed on a three-ball duck.

Sonal Dinusha delivered a crucial knock of 103 runs in 162 balls, including eight boundaries and three maximums. Keshara Nuwantha managed to score 18 runs in 74 balls, including two boundaries and a maximum. Lahiru Kumara accumulated 12 runs off 58 balls, with the help of two boundaries. Asitha Fernando stayed unbeaten on one run in four balls.

Team India’s Prasidh Krishna and Manav Suthar claimed three wickets each. Having bowled 16 overs, Krishna conceded 52 runs, whereas Suthar leaked 85 runs in 22 overs. Saransh Jain also bagged two wickets. Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja registered one wicket each to their names.

The ongoing Test series is one of the important series for Team India in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. The win in the second Test match against Sri Lanka will be crucial for Team India to keep hopes alive for the WTC final.
