A toothbrush with a camera, AI, and a built-in mouth-rinse jet may sound like something from the future, but Dyson has now made it real. The company has launched its new ‘Dyson CameraJet,’ an electric toothbrush designed to detect gaps between teeth and clean them while you brush.
The high-tech toothbrush has already caught attention online, with people questioning whether a toothbrush really needs a camera, especially one used in the bathroom. What is Dyson CameraJet? The Dyson CameraJet is an electric toothbrush and flosser that uses a built-in camera and machine learning to find spaces between your teeth. Dyson says the product is designed to solve a common problem, cleaning areas between teeth where regular brushing may not reach properly. The company describes it as “the first toothbrush with a camera to target and precision-floss gaps.” The toothbrush uses a 100,000-pixel macro-lens camera to scan your teeth as you brush. The camera can analyse 28 images every second, allowing the device to detect gaps between teeth in real time. How does the AI camera work? This is the feature that makes the CameraJet different from a regular electric toothbrush. The camera continuously looks at the area around your teeth while you brush. Its machine-learning system then identifies the spaces between your teeth and works out where cleaning is needed. Dyson says its AI system can detect, track and predict interdental gaps and target them in as little as 100 milliseconds. The technology, called ‘Gap Optical Targeting,’ has been developed using around 470,000 dental images. It sprays mouth rinse between your teeth The CameraJet does more than just brush. Once its camera detects a gap, the device releases a small burst of mouth rinse through a specially designed conical jet. Dyson says the jet can deliver up to 0.15ml of liquid between the teeth to help remove plaque. The toothbrush has a 12.5ml mouth-rinse tank, which is built into the device. Dyson says the system has been designed to deliver controlled amounts of liquid while being gentle on the gums and enamel. The company uses an anti-gravity tank, diaphragm pump, and pressure chamber to make sure the liquid can be sprayed consistently, regardless of how the toothbrush is held. What about the actual brushing? The CameraJet also works as a sonic electric toothbrush. Its brush head is designed to clean along the gumline and help remove surface stains. Dyson has also added a sonic dampener to make the brushing experience quieter and more comfortable. The device combines brushing and precision-flossing, so users do not have to separately switch between a toothbrush and traditional floss for the areas targeted by the system. The CameraJet can connect to the MyDyson app using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Through the app, users can get features such as: This means the toothbrush is not just tracking where it sprays the mouth rinse; it can also provide users with information about their brushing habits. Does the camera raise privacy concerns? A camera inside a toothbrush naturally raises questions about privacy. Dyson says the camera is mainly there to support the toothbrush’s automatic gap-detection and precision-flossing features. It also offers an optional live-view feature through the MyDyson app. The company says the camera turns off when it is not required, while a white light indicates when it is active. Dyson also says that images viewed through the live-view feature are streamed directly to the user’s app and are not stored by Dyson, saved in the app, or uploaded to the cloud. According to Dyson, neither the company nor third parties can access the live view. Dyson CameraJet price and India availability The Dyson CameraJet has been launched at $499.99, or roughly ₹47,000. However, Dyson has not announced the India price yet. The company says pricing and availability details for India will be shared closer to the local launch. What comes with the Dyson CameraJet? The package includes the toothbrush, a docking station and its specialised brush head. The docking station charges the device and also provides upright storage. Dyson will also offer its mouth rinse and toothpaste in two flavours, Ginger Mint and Spearmint. Overall, the CameraJet is Dyson’s attempt to turn a routine activity like brushing your teeth into a smart, AI-powered cleaning process, using a camera to identify areas that may otherwise be difficult to reach.
