Scientists transform coffee waste into a material that makes concrete stronger by 29%
Researchers transformed used coffee grounds into a valuable construction material. Pyrolysis converted the grounds into biochar, which improved concrete’s compressive strength. Replacing fifteen percent of sand with biochar increased concrete strength by nearly thirty percent. This process reduces waste and the need for natural construction resources. Further laboratory testing is needed before widespread commercial application.
