Naman Dhir smashes 173 off 64 balls as Amritsar Soormas beat Mohali Kings

Mumbai Indians’ Naman Dhir produced the innings of his life, scoring 173 runs from just 64 deliveries, including 16 boundaries and 12 sixes, to take the Amritsar Soormas to a dominant 67-run triumph over the Mohali Kings in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League.

The Soormas posted a massive 279/7, setting the highest team total of the tournament thus far and marking the third occasion they have surpassed the 250-run mark this season. During the chase, Shubham Rana (3/30), Jaipartap Singh (2/46), and Dhir himself (2/8) delivered effective bowling spells to restrict the Kings. The victory takes the Soormas to six points from six fixtures.

Reflecting on the innings, Dhir said, “It feels great. Now we are back in the tournament, and I feel we are peaking at the right time as a team. I was just trying to play the ball on its merit, and when I hit my first six, I was sure that if I played 20 overs, we would set an above-par total.”

Inserted to bat first, the Soormas attacked from the off, scoring 75/2 within the powerplay as stand-in captain Dhir dominated in place of absent Abhishek Sharma. Dhir reached his fifty in 19 balls before going all out in the middle overs, reaching a 36-ball century after taking 30 runs off Lovedeep Chatha in the 12th over.

Dhir was well supported by Jashanpreet Singh (41 off 25), and the duo shared a huge 120-run partnership from 51 deliveries, before combining with Rahul (13 off 9) for a quickfire 47-run stand in 19 balls. Impact player Abhishek Sharma (13 off 4) and Abhay Choudhary (20 off 10) added late flourishes. Aayush Goyal (4/43) eventually dismissed Dhir in the final over, but only after the batter recorded the highest individual tally of the campaign.

In response, Abhishek Sharma (1/38) struck in the opening over to remove Sagar Virk (1 off 2). Jaipartap Singh removed top-scorer Jaskaranvir and Aryan Bhatia in four balls to dismantle the chase. Dhir then capped his stellar outing by picking up two wickets, leaving the Kings well short at 213/8 to seal the Soormas’ second straight victory.

The Sher-E-Punjab T20 League has been a huge success with Indian captain Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Naman Dhir all playing in the tournament.
