Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has warned that artificial intelligence, or AI, in the wrong hands could become so powerful that it could even cause the deaths of 100 crore people. In an interview, Gates said that AI tools combined with people with malicious intentions could be more dangerous than any weapon used so far. He called for the threat to be taken seriously. Gates urged the US government to legislate on AI. He said companies’ control was not enough and that government oversight and regulations were necessary. In an article published in August, Gates had also outlined three major dangers posed by AI. AI model hacked government portal in Australia An AI model has reportedly hacked a government portal for the first time, with the incident taking place in Australia. An OpenAI-developed model breached the country’s health data system and accessed files containing healthcare spending and medicine subsidy records. OpenAI informed the government about the incident 54 days later. Following this, Prime Minister Albanese spoke to OpenAI chief Sam Altman by phone in New York and expressed his displeasure over the delay. Meanwhile, OpenAI CEO Sam said that it had become necessary to keep AI under control. He said that losing human control would have very serious consequences. Australia will now investigate the case Australia will now investigate whether a criminal case can be brought against the company. It is also investigating why Australian security agencies failed to detect the intrusion earlier. OpenAI also acknowledged that its models took steps that the company had not intended. CEO Sam said all countries around the world should work together to establish security standards so that the technology remains under control even as it becomes more powerful.
