UDAN loses altitude in Hyderabad, one in 4 routes yet to take off or defunct
The UDAN scheme has encountered significant challenges as many routes from Hyderabad remain inactive or are discontinued. Passenger traffic rose initially, but recent figures show a dramatic decline, remaining below pre-pandemic levels. Despite substantial financial support from the government, operational sustainability for airlines is under pressure due to rising costs and low demand. Several route operators have shifted, with many initially awarded to smaller airlines now operated by larger carriers.
