Jordan sank a retired military plane underwater in 2017; it now hosts fish, coral and marine life
In 2017, a retired Lockheed C-130 Hercules was submerged off the coast of Aqaba to establish an artificial reef, promoting marine biodiversity and dive tourism. Since its descent, various marine species have thrived among the wreck, offering refuge for fish. The aircraft’s distinctive allure has drawn divers, enhancing the region’s underwater experiences. Despite enduring storm damage in 2020, it remains a vibrant habitat and popular dive location.
