Scientists released fluorescent dye nearly 2 km underwater; it revealed deep water rising 100 metres a day

Researchers utilized fluorescein dye in the Rockall Trough to study deep ocean water upwelling. They measured rapid upward movement reaching about 125 metres per day, significantly faster than average estimates. This study provides direct observations of upwelling in submarines canyons, offering insights into ocean circulation dynamics. Findings suggest underwater topography plays a crucial role in deep-water circulation processes. Future research aims to explore similar processes in different submarine canyon settings.
