The West Indies will clash with Bangladesh for the two-match Test series. The series will mark the last assignment of the 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle for the Caribbean team.
Ahead of the series, the West Indies has released a 15-member squad, and batsman Kevin Wickham has earned a maiden call-up to the national side. The 23-year-old cricketer has received his first opportunity at the top-flight cricket following his stunning performance in the West Indies Championship. Wickham smashed three consecutive tons with a top score of 153 runs. With this, he has taken his first-class tally to six tons in 25 matches.
West Indies’ white-ball skipper Shai Hope has been rested, considering an extended run across all three formats of the game. With the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier scheduled for February next year, Cricket West Indies is managing Hope’s workload through the period in the lead-up to the tournament.
Pacer Alzarri Joseph has been withdrawn from the team due to a routine medical assessment and specialist consultation. The Cricket West Indies (CWI) has taken the decision to manage his workload to avert the risk of injury associated with the increased physical demands of red-ball cricket.
Joseph will continue working with the CWI medical team and specialists in preparation for a full return to the longer format.
With a series win over Bangladesh, West Indies could climb to sixth in the ICC Test rankings at the conclusion of the current cycle, after finishing the 2023-2025 cycle ranked eighth.
The full squad will arrive in Bangladesh on October 18 for a three-day warm-up match in Dhaka from October 22 to 24.
Currently, West Indies is busy featuring in the five-match T20I series against Team India. The Caribbean side is trailing by 1-2, but will look to bounce back in order to keep the series alive.
