Indian celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar is known to give timely advice on how to take care of your health and fitness on her social media. While there are many areas she focuses on, she recently put the spotlight on the importance of health and fitness of women in their 30s and why it is an important time for them.

Taking to Instagram, she shared, “30s is an important decade for every woman. It’s when our bone mineral density peaks and also the time when the silent transition in our hormones begins.

The thing is that women who look effortlessly fit in their 40s, 50s, 60s.. are the ones who have looked after themselves right from their 30s. Cumulative benefit of fitness is real.

And please know that it is never too late to start.

The foundation to a good life at any age, remains good health.”

Highlighting how a lot of people may have seen Karisma Kapoor on Koffee With Karan’s first episode, and how she still looks so beautiful and gorgeous in her 50s, and that may have made many wonder how? While she may say there is no secret and it is just curd rice, there is more to it according to Diwekar.

“It is because she has been working on her fitness since her 30s”, she adds.

The Mumbai-based nutritionist says while most people may remain fit in their 20s, it is only after women reach their 30s that they increase weight. Most may not know it at 32, 33 or 34 but by the time you are in between 36 and 38 because there is a change because something good happens and something bad also happens. “Your bone mineral density reaches its peak. The bad thing is that there is a silent hormone transition. Our progesterone decreases due to which estrogen dominates our body because of which our waist widens and our stomach comes out, along with changes in skin and hair colour. There is also a change in the period cycle and increase in intensity of PMS.”

While there may be many challenges, Diwekar says you can do a few things to retain your youthfulness when you are in your 30s, so that you can retain it till your 80s.

She highlights:
1. Don’t think about weight loss but think about exercising three hours every week. It means that your bone mineral density will increase, and you will be able to manage your youth well.
2. Don’t do restrictive dieting that you have left rice, given up carbs and sugar, or dinner. You should eat everything because if you lose the joy of eating, then you will lose the joy in life. You will also face a deficiency of micronutrients like Vitamin D, B12, iron and calcium, and then your silent transition will be rocky. You are still young in your 30s, the first ageing will come at the age of 44.
3. You need good health now in your 30s to earn inspiration, adventure and fun throughout your life.
