New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has announced multiple squad changes for the remaining three T20Is against India. The change will see Lockie Ferguson sit out the third fixture, Matt Henry stay behind to focus on ODI preparations, and Blair Tickner join the group for the final three matches to manage fast-bowling workloads ahead of the upcoming five-match ODI series.

Under the new plan, Lockie Ferguson travels to Auckland prior to rejoining his teammates for the last two games. Meanwhile, Matt Fisher will accompany the squad to Wellington only as cover pacer for the third match before returning to the New Zealand A setup.

Henry will remain in Christchurch before linking up with the ODI contingent in Auckland on November 2. Tall pacer Kyle Jamieson is set to feature in Tuesday’s third T20I on October 27. Following that appearance, Jamieson will stay available for Canterbury in their second-round Ford Trophy match on October 31 before joining the Black Caps for the ODI leg.

Additionally, Tickner joins the team for the final three games, while all-rounder Josh Clarkson will be in contention for the fourth and fifth T20Is.

Coach Rob Walter highlights squad depth ahead of Wellington clash

Evaluating the changes, Black Caps head coach Rob Walter emphasised that the team benefits from strong squad depth while monitoring player fitness levels.

“It’s been a competitive start to the T20 series with two close games and plenty more cricket to come. We’re very fortunate with the depth in the squad to be able to call upon different players to help manage our pacers’ workloads, and to try and ensure they’re best placed to perform for the team for all the cricket coming up,” he said as per the New Zealand Cricket website.

India currently lead the five-match series 2-0 after claiming four-wicket victories in both opening encounters at Christchurch. The hosts aim to spark a comeback when the third T20I takes place in Wellington on October 27. The tour then moves to Auckland for the fourth match on October 30, before wrapping up the T20I phase in Hamilton on November 1 ahead of the ODI series.
