IND vs NZ 3rd T20I: Shreyas Iyer wins toss, elects to bowl first against New Zea

In the third T20I match against New Zealand, Team India’s skipper Shreyas Iyer has won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Wellington Regional Stadium in Wellington.

The “Men in Blue” have made no change in what could be a series-deciding clash.

After winning the toss, Team India’s skipper Iyer said, “(First and foremost, it’s a little bit warmer in Christchurch. Got the gloves on tonight. How are the boys coping?)Well, yeah, it’s pretty windy out here. We were anticipating it, but we’ve got to keep our mana on, as they say in local language (Maori). And, yeah, that’s the plan. (What have you talked to the guys about between Christchurch and coming here to Wellington? What have you talked about improving a little bit?) Yeah, there are certain aspects we definitely need to keep improving, and I obviously feel that the way we adapted to the conditions in Christchurch, the same thing we have to do over here as well because, the dimensions, the conditions are pretty different. So the quicker we adapt, the better for us”.

“Continuing to find match-winners, different match-winners in your side, how important is that for you?) It’s important for the team. I feel that everyone stepping up at the right time when the team requires it, that’s a sign of a quality team, and we want to keep repeating it again and again. And I feel going forward, it would be crucial for the team as well. (How difficult is it to continue to tell those players missing out they’re not getting an opportunity?) I feel a lot of players in the team are pretty mature to understand that, and I also have this feeling about every individual that they want to win more than, you know, worrying about their opportunity. I mean, everyone gets an opportunity, and when it arrives, I’m sure they’re ready for it. We’re going with the same team,” he added.

On the other hand, New Zealand’s captain Mitchell Santner said, “Looks like another good wicket. Looks like a little pace and bounce, so I think we will bowl as well. Yeah, looks really good. (Your experience in playing here, how much does that come into being here tonight?) Yeah, a little bit. I mean, there’s no win which is quite nice. It usually swirls around a lot here, can be  quite hard to field under, but usually it’s a pretty good wicket. And obviously, the dimensions of the ground are slightly different to where we’ve come from, so we’ve got to make the adjustments here. (The games have been so close, so tight. What do you have to do to just get across the line?) We know that they’re a great side and, you know, they’ve got match-winners all the way through. I think you can’t let your foot off the gas. We’ve been in very good positions in both games to potentially win them, and, you know, we’ve kind of let India back in, and they’re too good a side to let back in. So, yeah, we’ve just got to play all the way to the end of the game and see what happens”.

“(A couple of injury concerns, so changes for tonight, and just explain why those changes have been made.) Yeah, we’ve got three changes. Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson and Nathan Smith are out, and we’ve got Fish (Fisher) coming back, which is nice. Adam Milne, KJ (Jamieson), it’s just a bit of rotation with the bowlers with obviously what we’ve got coming up. Yeah, some low-grade kind of niggles for those two other boys, so it’s a shame, but it means they get a rest up and get ready for what’s coming up, and it gives an opportunity to guys like KJ and Milne’s back, and Matt Fisher,” he added.

The “Black Caps” have made three major changes, where they have included Kyle Jamieson, Adam Milne, and Matthew Fisher in the playing XI and left out Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, and Nathan Smith.
