Team India is set to take on New Zealand in the fourth T20I match on October 30 at the Eden Park in Auckland.
Ahead of the match, Team India’s swashbuckling opening batsman Abhishek Sharma is set to enter the list of the top five highest run-scorers for the “Men in Blue” in the format’s history.
Currently, the Amritsar-born cricketer has 2240 runs in 70 T20I appearances for Team India. With a top score of 135 runs, he also has 14 half-centuries and four tons to his name in the shortest format of the game.
If he manages to score 26 runs in the fourth match, the left-handed batsman will then displace stylish batsman KL Rahul for the fifth-highest run-scorer for Team India in T20Is.
Rahul is in fifth place on the list with 2265 runs in 72 T20I games. With the top score of an unbeaten 110 runs, the right-handed batsman also has 22 half-centuries and two tons under his belt.
On the other hand, New Zealand has suffered a major blow as star pacer Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the remainder of the T20I series against the “Men in Blue”.
He sustained a calf injury during the second T20I match, following which he will be out of action for the fourth and fifth T20I matches against Team India.
The New Zealand Cricket (NZC) released a statement saying that Ferguson will require another week to recover.
The visitors have already sealed the series by 3-0, and will look for a whitewash in the shortest format’s series before engaging in the five-match ODI series against the “Black Caps”.
