Sharing the runway: Lapwings, lizards put RGIA flights at risk
Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has been grappling with an alarming uptick in wildlife strikes, escalating from 101 incidents in 2023 to a concerning 133 by 2025. This troubling trend raises significant safety alarms, attributed largely to nearby garbage disposal and water bodies. Management has taken preventative measures; however, wildlife strikes, especially during landing, are critical, making up over 60% of the total occurrences.
