Everything released at Google I/O 2025:New Google AI subscription plans, Android XR glasses, and Gemini upgrades for AI-powered shopping take center stage

Tech giant Google kicked off its annual developer conference on May 20 with a strong focus on AI, revealing upgraded Gemini models, new agent-like AI capabilities, enhanced AI Search tools, and a sneak peek at its Android XR platform for wearables. This event is being held for 20-21 May at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California.
According to Indian time, the event started at 10:30 PM. This time the entire focus is on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Top announcements and takeaways from the Google I/O 2025 keynote: 1. AI Search Engine: Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced a new ‘AI Mode’ conversational chatbot interface for Google search engine. This product comes at a time when AI startups like ChatGPT and Perplexity are putting pressure on Google’s traditional search market. 2. 3D Video Conferencing: Pichai also announced ‘Google Beam,’ which is a ‘new AI-first video communication platform’. It will transform 2D video from six cameras into realistic 3D rendering of people.
Google and HP will release Google Beam products for early customers by the end of this year. 3. Next Version of AI Video Generation: Google announced the next version of its AI video generation model. The Veo 3 model can also generate audio, sound ef,fects and dialogue. It is available through the Gemini app for Google AI Ultra subscribers at $249.99/month (Rs 21,400 approx). 4. AI-Powered Film Making Tool Flow: This tool allows users to create scenes, characters and movie assets from text prompts. It has been created for filmmakers and is available to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra customers in the US. 5. Gemini AI Model Upgrade: Google announced updates to its Gemini 2.5 model series, which includes Gemini 2.5 Flash and Gemini 2.5 Pro. This includes improvements in performance, efficiency, and coding capabilities. An experimental Enhanced Reasoning mode, Deep Think, was introduced for Gemini 2.5 Pro through the Gemini API for trusted testers. It aims to improve reasoning by considering multiple answers before responding. 6. New AI Subscription Plans: Google AI Ultra plan has been launched at $249.99/month (Rs 21,400 approx). It will provide access to advanced tools like Veo 3, Imagine 4, Deep Research. It includes 30TB storage in Google Drive, Photos, and Gmail along with YouTube Premium.
Meanwhile, the existing AI Premium plan has been renamed to Google AI Pro at $19.99/month (Rs 17,10 approx). It provides higher usage limits and access to Gemini Advanced.
7. Project Aura smart glasses for Android XR: At Google I/O 2025, Google and Xreal unveiled Project Aura, a new Android XR device that takes the form of immersive smart glasses. Designed as an optical see-through XR headset, Aura blends digital content with the real world. Powered by a Qualcomm XR-optimized chip, it builds on Xreal’s legacy of portable, display-driven wearables.
