Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting was not impressed with Team India opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal`s tactics to waste time in the final moments in the opening session on Day 3 of the fifth Test match.

Team India captain Shubman Gill played a sublime drive to find the boundary rope, and then pushed the ball to sprint for a double. Moments after bustling for a couple of runs,  Jaiswal started hobbling at the non-striker`s end while pointing at his hamstring.

Speaking about the incident, Ponting told Sky Sports, “I didn`t like what I saw there with wasting time in that last over. Especially at the back of what happened at Lord`s when India complained about what the English batters did”.

On the other hand, former England quick Stuart Broad, expressing his opinion on the incident, said, “All the drama that has enthralled us all series, the little dramas that make you smile”.

This wasn`t the first instance of India and England players engaging in a heated verbal altercation in the gruelling five-match series. During the third Test at the `Home of Cricket`, Lord`s, temperaments flared, tension simmered, and emotions ran high in the final over of Day 3.

India felt England opener Zak Crawley had resorted to time-wasting theatrics after moving out of the way on the third delivery of Jasprit Bumrah`s opening over. Gill expressed his discontent and yelled at Crawley from the slip cordon. On the fifth delivery, Crawley sustained a blow on the glove.

Later, Jaiswal completed his century at the Oval and is still unbeaten at the crease. Earlier in the day, night watchman Akash Deep registered his maiden half-century for India.

Facing 94 balls, Akash scored 66 runs, with the help of 12 boundaries.

Skipper Shubman Gill departed early as he scored 11 runs off nine balls, including two boundaries. Following him was Karun Nair, who registered 17 runs off 32 balls, with the help of three boundaries.

In India`s second innings, they lost the early wickets of opening batsman KL Rahul and batsman Sai Sudharsan.

Rahul departed after scoring seven runs, whereas Sudharsan scored just 11 runs in the innings.

So far, India has secured a lead of 223 runs, with Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja still unbeaten in the middle. Facing 10 balls, Jadeja has scored six runs.
