Red Bull’s Max Verstappen cruised to an easy victory in a crash-filled United States Grand Prix sprint race that saw McLaren teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris both knocked out in the first turn when their cars collided.
Verstappen started on pole with Norris and Piastri behind him as the cars charged into the left turn of the first corner. With several cars bunched up, Piastri cut into Kick Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg, and their bump sent Piastri crashing into Norris.
A few hours later, Verstappen’s joy was doubled as he clinched pole for Sunday’s main race. “In every segment the car was very strong. However, putting the lap together was difficult, especially in the first sector with the tail wind,” said the Dutchman.
