Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo shared a comforting and motivational message with Alpine skier Lindsey Vonn, who was discharged from hospital on Monday after undergoing multiple surgeries on her broken left foot following a crash at the recently concluded Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina.

Vonn, 41, a gold-medal winner at the 2010 Winter Olympics, underwent a six-hour leg reconstruction surgery and shared details with her 3.6 million Instagram followers. “After almost two weeks of laying in a hospital bed almost completely immobile, I’m finally well enough to move to a hotel. It’s not home yet, but it’s a huge step. It will take around a year for all the bones to heal and then I will decide if I want to take out all the metal or not, then go back into surgery and finally fix my ACL,” said Vonn in a lengthy video message that received nearly six lakh ‘likes’.

Al Nassr’s Ronaldo responded to her post, saying: “Champions are defined by the moments they win, and the moments they never refuse to give up. Lindsey Vonn, the mountains you conquered were never bigger than the strength you carry. Keep fighting. Legends always rise.”

A thrilled Vonn, wrote back: “@cristiano coming from you this means so much.”
