IPL 2026: RCB to wear green jerseys for their match against Delhi Capitals

As part of their “Green Initiative,” reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will wear their iconic green jerseys when they play Delhi Capitals (DC) at home on Saturday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The jerseys, which are made of recycled materials, remain a representation of the team`s ongoing dedication to sustainability. According to a statement from RCB, Royal Challengers Bengaluru is the only T20 team in the world that is carbon neutral.
As it strives to become carbon positive, RCB has been integrating sustainability into its operations from the initiative`s debut in 2011, with a focused focus on measurement, responsibility, and fan participation.
Speaking on the initiative, Rajesh Menon, CEO, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, said, “Achieving carbon-neutral status as a T20 franchise is the result of years of dedicated work. The green jerseys reflect this commitment, and we hope this initiative inspires our fans and stakeholders to embrace more responsible and sustainable practices.”
Fans encouraged to use public transport
A thorough analysis of matchday fan behaviour is a crucial part of RCB`s sustainability initiatives. In order to gain a better knowledge of the environmental impact of fan travel, the franchise is conducting surveys around the stadium across all stands to examine commute patterns, ride-sharing use, and carbon emissions per spectator.
With match tickets providing access to the Bengaluru Metro, fans are also urged to take public transportation to games. RCB keeps improving its waste management systems at the stadium level by conducting thorough audits and monitoring of segregation procedures.
RCB uses some strategies to lower and offset their carbon emissions, such as waste management and segregation at the stadium, the use of renewable energy sources like solar-powered lighting, and other programs like voluntary fan commitments to lessen reliance on traditional resources.
Additionally, the franchise maintains a thorough record of its operational footprint, including emissions from team travel, lodging, and energy use. Travel distances and fuel use are analysed, room-night data is used to determine emissions associated to lodging, and diesel generator audits and electricity consumption records are used to verify stadium energy usage.
To further improve on-the-ground accountability, matchday sustainability audits will be carried out throughout the season. These initiatives will be combined into a comprehensive sustainability report, followed by an impartial assurance process.
