Technology glasses enable real-time translations:Korean theater breaks language barriers with AI glasses
The popularity of Korean pop culture is no longer limited to just music and films, but Korean theater is also rapidly attracting global audiences. Taiwan’s 22-year-old Yuroy Wang is a fan of Korean theater, but he doesn’t know the Korean language. However, thanks to AI-powered smart glasses, Wang can now enjoy plays without any difficulty. These AI-powered smart glasses translate dialogues in real-time during live performances in the theater. These glasses are connected to a smartphone app, where viewers can select their preferred language. As actors speak their dialogues on stage, the AI system instantly translates them and displays them on the glasses’ lenses. Government Also Providing Support In South Korea, the government is promoting such experiments with the help of the Ministry of Tourism. Under the Korea Tourism Organization’s ‘Smart Theater’ program, these glasses are being used in several shows. Technology Not Perfect Although the technology is not completely perfect yet. Sometimes delays or errors also occur in translation, yet it is being considered a gamechanger for the theater industry. Companies are now working on lighter and more accurate models.
