Amid WhatsApp’s privacy row Elon Musk’s XChat debuts in India:Can this ad-free, encrypted messaging app challenge industry giants?
Elon Musk’s platform X (formerly Twitter) is expanding beyond social media with the launch of XChat, a new messaging app designed to compete with popular services like WhatsApp and Telegram. Right now, XChat is available only on iPhones, iPads, and the web, but Android support is expected soon. The goal is simple: turn X into an all-in-one digital platform where users can chat, share media, and connect without needing phone numbers or invitations. Available on iOS first, android coming soon At launch, XChat works on devices running iOS 26 or later and iPadOS 26 or newer. Existing X users can start using the app instantly by logging in with their current accounts no extra signup needed. The onboarding process is quick and beginner-friendly. Even better, the app currently shows no ads and claims it does not track user activity, highlighting its strong focus on privacy.
