Power-hitter Abhishek Sharma put up an explosive cameo for Sunrisers Hyderabad during their IPL 2025 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday. The 24-year-old southpaw lit up the powerplay with a rapid 34 off just 17 balls, maintaining a stunning strike rate of 200.00. His entertaining knock included three boundaries and three towering sixes, giving SRH an aggressive start at the top.

A standout moment of his innings came during the fifth delivery of the second over. Facing veteran RCB pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Abhishek latched onto a short-pitched ball and effortlessly launched it over mid-wicket for a maximum. The powerful hit made headlines when it crashed into the windshield of the IPL 2025’s official car, leaving a visible mark on the vehicle and adding a dramatic moment to his brief but impactful innings.

Abhishek`s blitz ended in the fourth over when pacer Lungi Ngidi struck to halt SRH’s flying start. Ngidi delivered a full-length ball which Abhishek attempted to flick toward deep backward square leg, only to find Phil Salt positioned perfectly for the catch. Despite his early dismissal, Abhishek and fellow opener Travis Head gave Sunrisers a strong platform with a 54-run opening stand.

In the current IPL 2025 campaign, Abhishek has been one of the few bright sparks for SRH. In 13 matches so far, he has scored 407 runs at a blistering strike rate of 192.89, with an average of 33.92. His highest score this season, an astonishing 141, showcases his ability to dominate attacks and change games single-handedly.

Across his IPL career, the SRH opener has played 76 matches, accumulating 1,784 runs at a strike rate of 162.48, with a respectable average of 27.03. His consistency and aggressive approach have made him a crucial part of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s top order.

Unfortunately for SRH, team performances have not mirrored Abhishek’s individual brilliance. The Hyderabad-based franchise is currently placed eighth in the IPL 2025 standings, having secured just four victories from 12 matches. With nine points and a net run rate of -1.005, their playoff hopes have already faded. In their last five games, SRH managed to win two and lost two, with one no-result, reflecting their inconsistent campaign.
