Give wings to India’s chip dreams, minister tells students

India plans to manufacture its first commercial semiconductor chip by the end of the year. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced this at IIT Hyderabad’s convocation. Eight student-designed chips have been successfully taped out. IIT Hyderabad was granted Institute of National Eminence status. The institute saw its highest R&D funding in 2024-25.
