Google Maps now auto-generates captions for your photos, videos:Select images to share, Gemini will analyze it and will generate editable captions
Google is introducing new features in Google Maps to make sharing local experiences easier and faster. The biggest update? Its AI tool Gemini can now automatically create captions for photos and videos users upload about places. Gemini suggests captions for your photos When users choose a photo to post on Maps, Gemini studies the image and suggests a ready-made caption. Users can edit the caption or remove it before posting. This feature helps people save time and share useful information quickly. Right now, caption suggestions are available in English on iOS in the United States, but Google plans to expand them worldwide and bring them to Android soon. Easier access to photos for sharing Google is also simplifying how users find photos to upload. If media access is turned on in phone settings, Maps will show recent photos and videos directly inside the “Contribute” tab. From there, users can quickly select and post them. These uploads help others understand important details about a place, such as its atmosphere or latest menu updates. Track your contributions more easily Google Maps now shows total contribution points inside the Contribute tab. Users can also see their Local Guide level clearly on their profile pages. Local Guides earn points by: Achievement badges have also been refreshed. Users can now easily spot titles like expert fact-finder, master photographer, or rising novice. High-level contributors will appear with new gold-colored profiles. Supporting a global community of contributors Google says these updates are designed to support its community of over 500 million contributors. Since Maps depends heavily on user input to stay accurate and useful, these improvements make sharing experiences simpler than ever.
