IITs exceed intake limits: Admissions soar in 2025; why the sudden rise?

For the first time, IITs have admitted more students than their sanctioned capacity in 2025. Against 18,160 seats, 18,188 were allotted through JoSAA to minimise vacancies. IIT Bombay, Delhi, Kharagpur, and Kanpur exceeded intake, highlighting both demand and infrastructure challenges.
