Along with sharing reels and photos, Instagram has now become a chat app for millions of people. Especially for young people, it is a communication platform just like WhatsApp. But from May 8, there is going to be a big change in Instagram’s direct message service where messages will no longer be end-to-end encrypted. End-to-End Encryption: Understand the Complete Technology When you send someone a message, it doesn’t go directly to the recipient, it first goes to the server. With end-to-end encryption, the message is converted into a special code. This code can only be unlocked with the key present with the sender and receiver. No one in between, not even the company, can read the message. Think of it like sending a locked box to a friend, where only you two have the key. The courier can carry the box but cannot open it. These changes will apply from May 8 – End-to-End Encryption feature in Instagram DMs will end after May 8. – Messages will not be encrypted. – Company will be able to access messages. – Security on Instagram chat will now be less than before – Change won’t be visible, but will have an effect. Why are they removing the feature? According to Meta, very few people were using encrypted chat. WhatsApp is already available for private chat.
