Former Team India cricketer Robin Uthappa praised Rohit Sharma`s 81-run knock against Gujarat Titans and said that after dropping Rohit`s first catch, the right-hander started playing responsibly and found the right gaps.

In the IPL 2025 Eliminator match against Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians came victorious by 20 runs. During the match, Rohit Sharma played a knock of 81 runs off just 50 balls, including nine boundaries and four maximums.

“After the early drop, Rohit flirted with danger briefly but quickly recognised the need to take control. He shifted gears, played responsibly, found the gaps, and built key partnerships. His composure stood out,” said Robin Uthappa on Match Centre Live on JioHotstar.

Rohit was also honoured with the `Player of the Match` award for his crucial knock in the IPL 2025 Eliminator clash at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.

In the second half of the match, Sai Sudharsan stole the game as he garnered 80 runs in just 49 balls. His knock was laced with 10 boundaries and a maximum.

Praising the 23-year-old, Uthappa said, “When players like Rohit, Dhoni, or Kohli are at the crease, the pressure is on everyone else. Sai Sudharsan is starting to reach that level too”.

Despite a stunning knock, GT failed to register a win over the Hardik Pandya-led side. With this win, Mumbai sealed a spot in the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2, which is scheduled to be played against Punjab Kings on June 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat.

In the IPL 20925, Rohit Sharma has accumulated 410 runs in 14 matches, including four half-centuries. His top score in the ongoing season is 81 runs and is Mumbai`s second leading run-scorer after Suryakumar Yadav.

In the match against Gujarat, the 38-year-old also achieved the milestone of completing 7,000 runs in IPL`s history. He is only second batsman to achieve the feat after Royal Challengers Bengaluru stalwart Virat Kohli.

So far, Rohit has registered 7,038 runs in 271 matches. He also has two centuries and 47 half-centuries with a career best score of an unbeaten 109 runs.

Recently, the former MI skipper announced his retirement from the longest format of the game. Previously, he drew curtains on his T20I career following Team India`s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. The veteran will continue to represent Team India in One-Day Internationals (ODIs).
