In the T20 World Cup 2026, Australia is set to clash against Ireland on February 10 at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
Ahead of the clash, Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh spoke about the 0-3 whitewash against Pakistan before entering the global showpiece. He said that the team take lessons and move on from such series.
“It was some great learning from that tour. We had some young guys that got exposed to those conditions for probably the first time in their career and as we always say, we take the lessons and we move on and we obviously welcome some experienced guys back into our group for this part for this tournament so yeah we`ve certainly parked that and we move on and we look forward to the World Cup,” he told reporters.
Further speaking, he said that the Australian team consists of a lot of skill and stated that the side will be focusing on adapting to the conditions.
“We do have a lot of power in our unit, but we`ve also got a lot of skill and a lot of experience from one to seven. So I think it`s just play what`s in front of us, adapt to the conditions, communicate really well, and whatever`s thrown at us, just jump at the opportunity and have a crack,” said Marsh.
The Aussies have been placed in Group B of the marquee event along with teams Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Ireland, and Oman.
The match against Ireland will be Australia`s first clash of the tournament. The side will be looking to make a positive start to the tournament. On the other hand, the Irish players have already suffered a loss in one match. They will be eager to secure their first win in the event.
