BCCI announces squads for Test, ODI series; Rahul replaces Pant as vice-captain

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced the squads for the Afghanistan series.

The “Men in Blue” will lock horns with the Afghans for a one-off Test match and three ODI games. The one-off Test match is scheduled to be played from June 6 to 10 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh.

The first match of the three-match ODI series is scheduled to be played on June 14 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. The second match will be played on June 17 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium B Ground in Lucknow, followed by the third match on June 20 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The BCCI`s official social media handle shared a post with a caption, “News Presenting #TeamIndia`s squads for the @IDFCFIRSTBank Test match and the 3-match ODI series against Afghanistan in June #INDvAFG”.

Shubman Gill will be leading the national teams in both formats. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have been appointed as vice-captains for the Test and ODI series, respectively.

India`s squad for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan: Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (VC), KL Rahul (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Prince Yadav, Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey.

However, Rohit and Hardik`s appearance will be subject to fitness.

Currently, players are busy featuring in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The cricket fans will witness the clash between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

So far in the tournament, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have already qualified for the play-offs. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are in the race for fourth place.
