X cracks down on stolen viral videos:Now, the original creators to get more views, engagement, and earnings

Ever noticed how the same viral video suddenly appears on your feed from multiple accounts at the same time? In many cases, the person who created the content gets overlooked, while larger repost accounts collect millions of views and sometimes even earn money from them. Now, X is taking steps to stop that. The platform has announced new measures to tackle accounts that repeatedly repost viral content from other creators just to benefit from X’s creator revenue-sharing program. X targets accounts reposting others’ content According to X’s Head of Product, Nikita Bier, the company recently found several large accounts that were automatically reuploading videos and posts from smaller creators without properly giving them credit. X’s creator revenue-sharing program allows eligible users to earn money based on engagement and impressions. However, some accounts were reportedly taking advantage of the system by quickly reposting trending content before the original creator could gain attention. Original creators will get most of the visibility To address the issue, X is changing the way impressions are distributed when reposted content is detected. This means that when X identifies copied or reuploaded content, the majority of the visibility and potential monetisation benefits will go to the original creator instead of repost or aggregation accounts. The move is aimed at rewarding the people who actually create content rather than those who simply recycle it. Commentary and reactions are still allowed X says the new policy is not intended to stop users from discussing viral content. People who want to add opinions, analysis, jokes, or additional context can still do so.
However, the platform is encouraging users to use the Share Video or Quote features instead of downloading and reposting someone else’s content. Bier said: If you have insightful commentary about a post, we recommend using the Share Video or Quote feature to ensure your posts are properly attributed. Commentators can still receive impressions Some users questioned whether people sharing videos with their own commentary would lose visibility under the new system. Responding to these concerns, Bier clarified: Commentary is encouraged and will get a portion of impressions. However, original posts will always get the bulk of the allocation. In simple terms, users who add meaningful commentary can still gain reach, but the original creator will receive most of the credit and exposure. X confirms a bug in the share video feature Users also highlighted a problem with the Share Video tool. They noted that when a post exceeds X’s 280-character limit, the embedded video sometimes turns into a simple link instead. Bier acknowledged the issue and confirmed that it is a bug that will be fixed in a future update. The latest changes are part of X’s broader effort to reduce earnings for content aggregation accounts that rely heavily on reposting other people’s work.
