‘Bill Gates trapped the world in 9-5 jobs’:Perplexity AI’s CEO Aravind Srinivas makes big claim regarding Microsoft founder’s strategy
Do you also work a desk job sitting in front of a computer from 9 AM to 5 PM? If yes, then the claim by Perplexity AI’s CEO Aravind Srinivas might surprise you. Srinivas says that this 9 to 5 desk job is not a natural evolution of human work, but was a highly successful business strategy created by Microsoft’s co-founder Bill Gates. Recently, during a conversation on the famous podcast ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, Srinivas made this claim. He said that Microsoft deliberately created the concept of the ‘modern office worker’ to sell its software. Srinivas said, ‘Microsoft built this entire concept of the office worker just because they wanted to sell their Office software. Bill Gates’ mission was to have a PC (computer) on every desk and have people glued to it.’ He further explained that this work culture of sitting at a desk all day staring at screens was systematically created from the bottom up. Podcast host Joe Rogan was also astonished upon hearing this claim by CEO Srinivas. Commenting on this, Rogan said, ‘Wow! This kind of lifestyle is a very recent thing that we have all now accepted as normal. Microsoft hit the mark precisely in this matter.’ Perplexity chief Srinivas explained that under this strategy, generations were made addicted to Microsoft products even before entering the corporate world. He said, ‘This is why we were all taught to use Microsoft Word and Excel from childhood. Once you learned this, you became ready to work in a company that has PCs on desks and is paying Microsoft for using the software.’ By making Word and Excel mandatory in schools and early corporate culture, Microsoft created a never-ending cycle of profits. Gates’ objective was not to make computing beautiful like Jobs – CEO Arvind Srinivas compared Bill Gates’ aggressive corporate vision to Apple’s co-founder Steve Jobs. He said that while Steve Jobs’ focus was on creating beautiful, attractive and easy machines, Microsoft’s goal was only to make profit. Srinivas said, ‘Like Steve Jobs used to think. He only cared about selling computers and software, because selling more software is how you become rich.’
