The diamonds used in the Cosmic Bloom were developed at Surat-based Sangini-Maitri Labs using advanced lab-grown technology. According to the creators, the diamonds match the strength, brilliance and quality of natural diamonds, with their shine and structural integrity remaining unaffected even after being sent into space. Cosmic Bloom crafted with 32 lab-grown diamonds and pure gold The historic ‘Cosmic Bloom’ lotus has been meticulously designed using 32 pear-cut lab-grown diamonds with a combined weight of 16.95 carats. The artwork also incorporates four different diamond sizes and 11 grams of pure gold, making it a unique blend of craftsmanship and advanced technology. Creation valued at over ₹10 lakh The artistic masterpiece is estimated to be worth more than ₹10 lakh. The concept and commission for the space-bound lotus came from South Bay-based Cosmos Diamond, led by Sanjana Tripuramalu, with the intricate piece showcasing the capabilities of India’s lab-grown diamond industry. Master craftsmen spent six months creating space-bound masterpiece The ‘Cosmic Bloom’ lotus was crafted by Surat-based Nitya Gems and Jewellery Limited under the guidance of Rajnikant Chanchad. A team of more than 20 master craftsmen and specialists spent six months meticulously creating the intricate piece, carefully setting each lab-grown diamond in gold to resemble blooming lotus petals. Engineered to survive extreme launch conditions The artwork was specially designed to withstand the harsh conditions of a space launch. To endure intense rocket vibrations, extreme pressure and rapid temperature changes, every diamond was securely embedded in gold and mounted on a specially engineered aerospace-grade aluminium plate. The reinforced design ensured the structure remained intact and protected throughout its journey into space. Lotus chosen to reflect India’s cultural and spiritual heritage The lotus was selected as the centrepiece of the ‘Cosmic Bloom’ because of its deep significance in Indian culture and spirituality. Regarded as a symbol of purity, resilience, growth and positive energy, the lotus also holds a sacred place in Hindu tradition as the seat of Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe. According to Rajnikant Chanchad, never before has an artistic creation made from lab-grown diamonds been sent into space as part of a mission. He said, “Surat’s diamonds, long admired for adding brilliance to celebrations on Earth, have now carried India’s name into space, making the achievement a proud milestone for the city’s diamond industry and the Cosmos brand behind the initiative.” Achievement opens new avenues for high-tech diamond applications The success is expected to expand Surat’s reputation beyond its traditional identity as a global textile and diamond manufacturing hub.
