England bowlers shine as England beat Pakistan by 194 runs to clinch series

An impressive bowling display from English pacers Ollie Robinson, Josh Tongue, and Jofra Archer took the home side to a comfortable 194-run victory against Pakistan in the second Test at Lord’s. The win gives England an unassailable 2-0 series lead with one match to go, marking a successful start to Joe Root’s second stint as captain.

After winning the toss, Pakistan opted to field and quickly reduced the hosts to 77/4, led by an incisive opening spell from Mohammad Abbas. England slipped further to 120/5 before Jordan Cox (55 off 105 balls) and Jamie Smith (61 off 80 balls) mounted a 67-run recovery. Vital lower-order contributions from Gus Atkinson (45) and Josh Tongue (30) eventually pushed England’s first-innings total to 290 in 66.4 overs, despite strong bowling from Abbas (4/73) and Mohammad Ali (3/86).

In response, Pakistan’s first innings collapsed for just 110 runs in 37.2 overs, with Azan Awais (46) providing the lone fight. Robinson led the attack with an impressive spell of 4/11, while Archer (3/26) and Tongue (2/27) took the rest of the wickets.

England thrash Pakistan to win series

England’s second innings saw several batters get starts without converting, including Emilio Gay (31), Joe Root (24), and Harry Brook (34). Dan Lawrence top-scored with 54 as England posted 208, leaving Pakistan to chase a target of 389 runs. Abbas earned a spot on the Lord’s honours board by taking 5/57 in what was an otherwise lacklustre performance from Pakistan.

Pakistan collapsed to 14/3 in the second innings as Archer dismissed skipper Babar Azam for just six with a sharp bouncer. Shan Masood (26) and Saud Shakeel temporarily gave the visitors hope with a 97-run partnership for the fourth wicket, but the hosts soon took control.

Robinson led the pace attack once again with 4/24, supported by Tongue (3/46) and Archer (2/73). Returning match figures of 8/35, Robinson earned the ‘Player of the Match’ award, bringing his series tally to 16 wickets at an impressive average of 7.18.

Pakistan will travel to Edgbaston for the third and final Test match with the series already lost. Pakistan are now winless in their last 18 Test matches away from home in SENA countries.
