India secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Bangladesh in the men’s badminton team event at the Asian Games 2026, guided by comfortable singles victories from Lakshya Sen, Ayush Shetty, and Kidambi Srikanth.

Lakshya Sen set the tone in the opening match, beating Ayman Ibn Jaman 21-4, 21-12. The Indian shuttler dominated the game throughout the contest to hand India an early 1-0 advantage. Ayush Shetty doubled the lead with another strong display, defeating Gourab Singha 21-4, 21-13 in the second match.

To complete the sweep, veteran player Kidambi Srikanth delivered a composed 21-15, 21-9 win over Al Amin Jumar. India’s three singles victories meant the doubles matches were not required as the team secured a comfortable win over Bangladesh. With this victory, the Indian men’s team locked in a spot in the quarterfinals, where they are expected to clash with host nation Japan.

Indian stars shine on a productive Asian Games day

The badminton victory capped off a highly productive day for the Indian delegation in Aichi-Nagoya, which featured podium finishes in shooting and mixed martial arts along with wins in hockey, kabaddi, boxing, and table tennis.

India’s success on the shooting range continued as the trio of Rudrankksh Patil, Parth Mane, and Himanshu Dhillon clinched a silver medal in the men’s 10m air rifle team competition at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya on Monday.

The Indian squad confirmed second place with a total score of 1890.1, finishing behind China, who took the gold medal with a tally of 1899.0.

In MMA, Suchika Tariyal secured a bronze medal in the women’s 60kg division following her semifinal against Singapore’s Teo Hui Hoon.

On the team sports front, the Indian women’s hockey team defeated Indonesia 17-1 in Pool B, while the men’s kabaddi squad posted a 49-23 win against Japan in Group A. The women’s table tennis team earned a 3-0 sweep against Pakistan, and boxer Sumit advanced in the 70kg division after defeating Bunjong Sinsiri.

In swimming, Srihari Nataraj advanced to the 50m backstroke final. Meanwhile, in soft tennis, Aadhya Tiwari and Jay Meena picked up two group-stage wins before exiting in the Round of 16 against the Philippines.
