The Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated the Delhi Capitals by 47 runs to move into third place in the table. Abhishek Sharma was the star for SRH, scoring an unbeaten 135 in the first innings.
Abhishek Sharma took the game away from DC in the first innings, scoring his second-ever IPL hundred. The southpaw looked back to his best as he hit 10 fours and 10 sixes in his masterful knock.
Chasing 242 runs, DC got off to a quick start but lost key wickets in the middle. Nitish Rana was the best batter for the Capitals, scoring 57 runs off 30 balls, but the target was just too much to chase down for the visitors.
For SRH, Eshan Malinga was the star with the ball, taking 4 wickets in his four overs. The Sri Lankan was at his masterful best as he ran through the DC middle order, ending any hopes for a historic run-chase.
Speaking after the defeat, Axar Patel admitted that the bowling let his team down. He also praised the way Abhishek Sharma batted in the first innings.
“The run-out and the catch we missed – had we taken it, we could have restricted them (on the chances missed against Abhishek Sharma). But yes, if someone bats that well, and their execution is not lacking, credit must be given for such a performance. Considering the way Klaasen also batted from the other side, it’s not the bowler’s fault. I was telling the bowlers the same thing — that if you executed well, and after that he still hit a good shot, then you cannot do anything. You know, you have to move on. The fielding area is in your hands. Catching and run-outs – those you can do.” Axar Patel said.
SRH score a mammoth 242 runs against DC
Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad scored a massive 242 runs thanks to the brilliance of Abhishek Sharma. SRH got off to a flying start, scoring 67/0 at the end of the powerplay. The openers attacked from the very beginning, with Abhishek Sharma racing to 42 off 19 balls inside the first six overs.
After Travis Head’s dismissal, Abhishek and Ishan Kishan continued to dominate, maintaining a brisk scoring rate as SRH set a daunting target for DC. Heinrich Klaasen added the finishing touches with a quickfire 37 off 13 balls, ensuring SRH ended their innings on a high.
For DC, Axar Patel was the most economical bowler, finishing with figures of 1/23 from his four overs in what was otherwise a tough outing for the bowling unit.
