Chennai Super Kings got off to a flying start and raced to 73 runs for the loss of 2 wickets against the Mumbai Indians. Sanju Samson scored a quickfire 35 as MI bowlers struggled to find line and length.

Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya opened the bowling for the hosts. Pandya was particularly expensive, conceding xx runs in his 2 overs. MI got their 2 wickets when spin was introduced into the attack.

AM Ghazanfar and Mitchell Santner both got a wicket each as MI tried to find a way back into the game. Ruturaj Gaikwad was the first to depart, being caught by Tilak Varma at long off, before Sarfaraz Khan was clean bowled by Santner in the final over of the powerplay.

CSK will move to post a competitive total on board with a deep batting line-up to come. For MI, Sanju Samson`s wicket will be the key.

Earlier, Hardik Pandya won the toss and was happy to bowl first. The MI skipper said that he wants to use the `green wicket` and restrict the opponents to a low score.

“We are going to bowl first. I think a lot of boxes were ticked. The intensity was there. I think we needed that kind of game where everyone comes in and chips in. Yeah, we had a perfect game.” Hardik Pandya said.

Ruturaj Gaikwad admitted that he wanted to bowl first, too. The CSK captain confirmed that MS Dhoni will miss the game due to a recurring calf problem.

“We would have bowled first as well, but it was a 50-50 call. It looks a good wicket and coming here at Wankhede Stadium, you have to bat well irrespective of whether you’re batting first or bowling first. So it is just about putting up a great show even if you’re batting first. But everyone is confident and ready to go.” Ruturaj Gaikwad said.

Confirmed Playing XI for both teams:

Mumbai Indians (Playing XI): Quinton de Kock(w), Naman Dhir, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya(c), Tilak Varma, Sherfane Rutherford, Mitchell Santner, Jasprit Bumrah, Krish Bhagat, AM Ghazanfar, Ashwani Kumar

Chennai Super Kings (Playing XI): Sanju Samson(w), Ruturaj Gaikwad(c), Sarfaraz Khan, Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube, Kartik Sharma, Jamie Overton, Noor Ahmad, Anshul Kamboj, Gurjapneet Singh, Mukesh Choudhary
