IPL 2026: Super Kings announce Akash Madhwal as Ayush Mhatre`s replacement

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are all set to lock horns with the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2026 match on Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The El-Clásico of the tournament will commence at 7.30 PM.

Ahead of the match, the Super Kings will miss the services of their star opening batsman Ayush Mhatre, as he has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a hamstring injury.

Following his exit from the tournament, the Chennai-based franchise has announced Akash Madhwal as Mhatre`s replacement.

The official social media handle of CSK has shared a post following the development.

Currently, the Mumbai Indians are placed in the seventh position with two wins and four losses. They have a net run rate (NRR) of +0.067 and four points. The Chennai Super Kings are also in a similar situation. They are placed in the eighth position with two wins and four defeats and a net run rate (NRR) of -0.780 and four points.

It will be interesting to see which players from both teams manage to put on a big show at the iconic stadium in the city. The fans will also keep a tab on MS Dhoni, as he will be expected to make his first appearance in the ongoing edition of the cash-rich league.
