Indian women’s team’s Mumbai batter Jemimah Rodrigues believes the Women’s ODI World Cup triumph in 2025 has only increased the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side’s hunger for glory at the upcoming T20 World Cup in England from June 12 to July 5. It will be the 10th edition of the global showpiece tournament.
“After winning a [ODI] World Cup, you can get complacent, but this team is even more hungry to win it again and again. That’s the plan and that is the entire motive,” Rodrigues, 25, said on the sidelines of the International Institute of Sports and Management’s degree distribution ceremony on Sunday.
Mumbai girl Rodrigues, who scored an unbeaten 127 to lead India to a five-wicket win over Australia in the ODI World Cup semi-final in Navi Mumbai last October, said every member is charged up to shoulder the responsibility.
“It’s not just me, any player would want to take up any challenge for the team. If one person has done it, it’s the responsibility of the other person to take up and that is what this team does very well and we will continue to do that.
That is what we did in the [2025] World Cup; not just the players [who are] playing, but people sitting out as well as the support staff, who lifted us up when we were down. Our team is going to do that. Each one of us inspires the other and we just keep going and try and win more World Cups for India,” remarked Rodrigues.
India outclassed Sri Lanka 5-0 in the home T20I series last December, however, they lost to South Africa 1-4 in the away T20I series last month. But Rodrigues is confident in the team’s preparations.
“The preparation is great and it has just started with the squad coming out. The first series that we played against Sri Lanka after winning the 2025 World Cup, we came into a huddle and said this is where we want to start for the next World Cup so the preparations have been great,” added Rodrigues.
