Ban on sending users’ data outside India:Records will be stored in the country itself
Now your privacy and personal data will be completely secure, because telecom companies will now have to store all types of data and logs related to your phone, internet usage, and calling within India itself. No company will be able to send your personal data outside the country nor will they be able to share it with any foreign entity. Actually, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) issued new rules for telecom companies on Wednesday. Let’s understand the government’s new rules related to the telecom sector and the benefits that will come from them
1. License Raj ended, Telecom e-Services Portal launched DoT has eliminated the decades-old license raj for companies in the telecom sector and introduced a new and easier approval system. Along with this, the government has also created a website called ‘Telecom e-Services Portal’ so that all work can be done digitally. Until now, companies had to go through a complex and lengthy ‘license’ process from the government to start mobile or internet services, which used to take months. Those with old licenses can also come into the new system Telecom companies that are already operating and have different types of licenses under the old system (such as for internet or calling), the government has provided them the facility to shift to this new and easier system. This means that old companies will also now get relief from paperwork. 2. Cheaper and New Plans May Be Available Under the new rules, companies can now apply for network and internet services together from a single digital portal. 3. Government Strict on Satellite Internet If you are thinking of getting satellite internet directly (wireless or tower-free direct internet) from companies like Elon Musk’s Starlink or Amazon in the coming time, then the government has made strict rules for your security. 4. Your Personal Data Will Remain Safe Nowadays, the biggest fear is of data theft or leakage. The government has made very strict rules regarding this. It has now been made mandatory for telecom companies that they will store all data and records of Indian users within India itself. 5. No Compromise on National Security Companies will have to obtain special security clearance to set up networks in sensitive areas like Jammu-Kashmir or North-East. Additionally, companies will also have to create systems to monitor anti-national or suspicious messages.
